Artist's Comments

I did a partial drawing of Carpeaux's sculpture, Ugolino and his sons. The story of Ugolino can be found in Dante's Inferno, where Ugolino is imprisoned in one of the circles/ levels (however they are described) of hell. Starving, his sons and grandsons offer themselves as food to their grandfather, Ugolino, who refuses. As time goes on his sons die and he goes blind, leaving him to call out unknowingly to no one.

I figure the unfinished figures add to the idea of Ugolino's sons fading away...

Wow! It is lovely....And that you have bothered to write that you have taken inspiration from Dantes Inferno only adds to the experience! Simply marvelous! looks almost like you have used charcoal...

It was a lovely piece originally but i really *really* like the secondary manipulations! Very neat!!!
